Interested in nature? The first Saturday of every month, join a group of fellow bird lovers bright and early in the morning. From woodpeckers to waterfowl to songbirds and hawks – you never know what sort of feathered friend will be spotted. Every weekend in New Braunfels, The Float In hosts ‘BREAKFAST ON THE BANKS’ with a special brunch menu that foodies cannot miss. Every Saturday and Sunday from 9 – 11am, walk-ins are welcome to enjoy the restaurant without a day pass. Just let the entry booth know you’re there to simply eat and hangout on the deck. Indulge in such delights as Sweet Cream Pancakes, smoked salmon, and other breakfast goodies.
On March 5th in San Marcos, runners and spectators can join Middleton Brewing for the ANNUAL 5K BEER RUN! The run begins and ends at Middle Brewing Company and follows a paved road around the brewery. Once runners are finished, they can hit the tasting area to collect their souvenir pints and indulge in up to four 8-oz. tastings of great craft beer! Awards are given for the top male and female runners in several age groups. Food trucks are available to pair with your beer.
Every Sunday, head to Wonder World Park for San Marcos’ fabulous flea market. Full of live music, local vendors, food trucks and more! With no admission fee and free parking, this event is a great way to shop ‘til you drop with the entire family and be entertained while you’re at it.
The Mermaid Society of Texas (yep, there’s such a thing) hosts a fun experience for the whole family at Wonder World Cave & Park. The bazaar features local crafters and artisans, vintage sellers and more. Then take a MERMAID MARCH through town to view a collection of larger-than-life mermaid sculptures. At about seven feet tall, each mermaid represents a different aspect of what makes San Marcos unique.
Come back in September, where the merfolk take over San Marcos for the MERMAID CAPITAL OF TEXAS FESTIVAL. If you love the quirky and colorful, you will want to attend this annual festival.
